Hardee’s Big Chicken Fillet Sandwich
It’s too damn hot to work in the yard, and I needed some new books to add to my Bush Hatred Library, so I drove down to Edward McKay and picked up Chris Hedges‘ American Fascists and Kevin Phillips‘ American Theocracy. While looking, I was encouraged to find a copy of Ron Suskind‘s The Way of the World, which I had also purchased there and recently finished.
On the way home, I used a coupon to buy a Hardee’s Big Chicken Fillet Sandwich. Recently, we’d tried the new turkey burger, which tasted like hamburger, and were disappointed. Arriving home, I unboxed the thing to find a big piece of iceberg lettuce, two big slices of tomato and some mayo. I ate it as prepared and it was very good. With a retail price of $5, it should be. However, for the same price, I can get a Thickburger with the same stuff, plus mustard, catsup, onions and pickles.
The grocery stores had crab claw meat on sale this week, so I’ll make crab cakes for dinner and serve them with a salad including lots of homegrown cukes and the last of our onions. If they turn out half as good as those from The Secret Tea Room, I’ll be happy.
Harris-Teeter has buy one get one free blueberry pies and I can’t make them for that price, so I’m done making cobbler.
