The Guileless Rebellion

October 18, 2011

One of the things that greatly offends me about the OWS movement is the fact that they are protesting for change of some sort, but they completely abandoned the democratic mechanisms already in place to achieve it. Most of these chowderhead protestors have never addressed politics before. Like petulant children, they are merely angry and believe that emotion is sufficient. Of course, that’s worked all their lives with their parents, so why should they believe in a different outcome now?

However, the OWS movement is a slap in the face to those of us who’ve spent years in local politics, attempting to effect change, and not without success. For these numb nuts to assume the system doesn’t work when they haven’t even tried it is asinine.

I’m afraid a large number of protestors, by never having embraced it before, are bent on a policy of anti-intellectualism. This sort of dangerous behavior leads to anarchy and the downfall of a civilization. History is replete with terrible examples of putsches beginning with purges of the intelligentsia. The potential for such an outcome presents a very real danger to our communities, such as they may be.

My advice to the protestors is to decamp, return home and become active in local politics. Democracy is alive and well throughout the world. It need only be tried. These lunatics who eschew the establishment in search of a better way are pathetic losers who did not possess the guile to persuade the electorate before. There is little reason to believe they will create something better, and mountains of historical evidence pointing to an eventuality which is much worse.

It is my ultimate conclusion that the OWS protestors are traitors to democracy no less dangerous than the Tea Party social conservatives. Both are outliers in the democratic process and should be vanquished ASAP.

Which faction of the political spectrum should they support? The gay/lesbian, PETA, Rainbow Coalition, Greenpeace, Climate Change supporters, socialists, marxists, communists, Code Pink, Brady Bunch, Social Justice, Educrats, Libertarians, Conservatives, Tea Party, KKK, Skinheads, Earth First or Soccer Moms?

Sorry, your comment got treated as spam and I found it by accident. It was probably due to all the proper nouns.

Local politics is typically issue oriented. The orgs you cite don’t usually weigh in on local issues. I should think that such associations would be more in the social than political realm.

I generally stake out a position on an issue and try to persuade voters and elected officials with reason, humor and character assassination. Each tactic can be effective, so long as it is entertaining.

Of course, you’ve been around long enough now to know that.
