Non-Voter Approved Bonds
While I didn’t see it, I understand Martinet Perkins at one point last night mentioned the use of non-voter approved bonds to finance the downtown Performing Arts Center. I have a bit of advice for you.
Go ahead and fucking try it. It’ll seal your fate as a one term mayor.
Ignoring the fact you couldn’t get a majority of votes, because only you are so politically ignorant as to even contemplate such a pratfall, the citizens of Greensboro have already approved over $100M in bonds to improve our neighborhoods and yet you and your butt-hole buddy, Matt Brown, chose to fast track bonds for the PAC.
Since you are obviously oblivious to the political realities, allow me to inform you, mayor dickhead. In barely six months, we are disgusted by your naked ambition and relentless pursuit of a downtown PAC. As several important locals have opined, your rush to implementation so that you can get a bond referendum on the November ballot is sadly wanting in important details. The sad effort by the Greensboro Partnership and their lackeys has left the electorate, not to mention council, woefully unimpressed. If you really expect this effort to succeed, you had best come down off your high horse and begin to address these concerns forthwith.
Allow me to disabuse you of one more notion. Despite your behavior to date, you do not possess a mandate to build a downtown PAC. I realize you pretty much ignore everything except the voice in your head, but you actually serve at the pleasure of those who elected you. It is high time you began to act like it. At this point, you’re no more than a one term wonder, like Bill Knight and Danny Thompson.
Perkins isn’t concerned with being a 1 term mayor, he’ll fatten his wallet enough in one term to go on to his next scheme to rip off the taxpayers. He’s mad with power and has Trebic in his pockets.
The fact is that whatever happens the citizens of Greensboro are to blame, they dont vote. There were more people who stood home then voted in the primary and general.
Sal, Blaming the voters seems simplistic, unfair and unrealistic to me. Had 10 times as many people voted would the end result be any different? Maybe I’m wrong but somehow I don’t think so. While politicians would want us to believe that low voter turnout means people are happy with the way things are the opposite is more likely to be true. After all, in the current state of affairs none are happy and yet fewer and fewer return to vote.
For twenty years, conservatives have waged an effective campaign to cause voters to become disenchanted. I’m not prepared to wait for an election. Proactive resistance while policy is being considered is the best way to effect change.
