Push Polls for Senator Liar

We’ve gotten some reports here at Scoop that voters in state Senate District 27 are getting some curious political polling phone calls.
The callers, not yet positively identified, are reportedly asking questions about the state Senate race between Greensboro City Councilwoman Trudy Wade, a Republican, and Democrat Myra Slone.
The questions tout Wade’s experience and achievements while relaying disparaging information about Slone, including the claim that the Democratic candidate is two years behind on her property taxes.
We’ve checked into that claim and it appears Slone’s taxes are paid.
Trudy Wade recently published a work of science fiction which is no surprise since her entire political career has been a work of fiction. In the recent primary, her campaign consultant, Bill Burckley, ginned up what appeared to be a neighborhood newsletter and mailed it to likely voters accusing opponent Justin Conrad of missing some meeting on a board on which he served. It turned out he was only attending on behalf of someone else who couldn’t make the meetings. When Conrad pointed this out, the Wade campaign issued a statement blaming him for starting it by accusing her of not attending a recent debate. This was an obvious lie from the Wade campaign, as the newsletter was already in the mail before the debate was held.
Slone goes on to accuse C4GC of being behind the push poll. While many members of C4GC live in District 27, there is no evidence I am aware of that Wade and C4GC have any connection. Indeed, my biggest fear is that Burckley will link up with C4GC, in that they are badly in need of leadership and he is diabolically capable.
While there is no evidence to prove who is behind the push poll, this smells like Burckley. And Wade has a troubled past including a brief marriage to a convicted video poker distributor. She also supported NC Amendment One while rumors as to her own sexuality remain.
If you like the Tea Party-dominated politics going on in Raleigh, then Wade will fit right in. However, giving the duplicitous Wade and Burckley access to a wider arena for their high jinx will probably prove disastrous for the constituents.
When remembering Trudy Wade, it is also important to point out that she started out as a liberal and changed to a conservative in order to get elected as a county commissioner. Along the way she’s lost several elections. But safely ensconced on the Greensboro City Council, she went to work on behalf of DH Griffin, her biggest corporate constituent and donor, orchestrating their ill-fated attempt to re-open the White Street Landfill. This disastrous effort raised the ire of those in east Greensboro and resulted in all the conservatives on council being voted off, except for her.
Even now, the city subsidizes private trash haulers to the tune of $625,000 per year, and you can bet DH Griffin is at the bottom of it, despite Wade’s recent comments professing ignorance. One thing the voters in Guilford County know is that Trudy Wade will lie to you with a straight face to please her masters.
