Is DH Griffin Behind Wade Push Polls?

GREENSBORO — No one is taking credit for phone calls touting Republican Trudy Wade’s record and slamming Myra Slone, her Democratic opponent in the race for state Senate in District 27.

But blame is flying.

The Slone campaign said Wade is likely to blame for the calls, which falsely accuse Slone of being two years behind on her property taxes.

Wade strongly denied any involvement with the phone campaign.

DH Griffin is Greensboro city councilwoman and NC Senate District 27 candidate, Trudy Wade‘s, biggest corporate constituent and campaign donor. As such, it has the most to gain from Wade going to Raleigh. And the company has a record of ham fisted political moves which not only fail, but end up doing a lot of collateral damage. As evidence, one need look only at the new slate of members on the Greensboro city council after DH Griffin‘s failed attempt to re-open the White Street Landfill.

Paying for push polls four months ahead of an election smells just like something DH Griffin might do. The old man for whom the company is named also has a history of bold moves to get what he wants. After 9/11, he got the contract, in the most politically corrupt city in the world, to do the demolition work. We’ll never know who was paid or how much it cost to get the contract. Neither do we know who has been paid or how much to re-open the landfill.

It is also interesting that John Hammer‘s articles in The Rhino Times fail to implicate DH Griffin as one of the private waste haulers benefiting from the $625K annual subsidy. Hammer is a long time Wade supporter and would never step on the toes of her corporate master.

DH Griffin has the means to pull off the push polls and the motive. As the campaign progresses, we are likely to see more underhanded stunts. I suspect that by election day there will little doubt as to who has been standing behind the curtain.
