August Garden
August 6, 2012
I’m happy with the deck board frame, but not so much with the store bought topsoil.
OTOH, this bed is a compost veteran. Somewhere in there are two giant eggplants and a couple of jalapenos. The cuke plant is a volunteer from last year.
The Texas Sweet onions are all but gone. Volunteer tomato plants have taken over. The wire arrangement allows me access to the plants, while keeping out the cats.
Here we have an asparagus plant, green beans and volunteer tomatoes.
I haven’t bought a tomato in months.
Notice the laser precision of the fence and the composter in the background.

While some (not you ) look with disdain on those who till the soil, we all need some new food tomorrow.
Looking good. The heat decimated my zucchini after only one zucchini and I think I’ve finally manged to stop the squirrels in time to salvage a few tomatoes, but my hopes now rest on the upcoming plantings of cabbage, broccoli and spinach.
Thanks. I do really well with lettuce in the spring. The heat also decimated my zucchini. I should also plant my fall garden.
I got seven zucchinis, but my squash hadn’t bloomed yet, and I like to grill those together, so I donated the zucchini to Food Not Bombs (they feed the homeless) and waited for more. Then the zucchini died and I didn’t know why. So, the heat, apparently? My squash is finally producing, though. Best year I’ve had for cucumbers, and tomatoes are doing well, too. They must like the heat.
I obviously didn’t water enough.
I watered daily and mine still died.
Peppers and tomatoes..that’s all you need Jeff
