Christofascist Running N&R Site
My intel’s a little sketchy, but here’s what I know about the new N&R website.
They’ve apparently abandoned their open source Drupal site for something proprietary from InterSystems. Never mind they don’t appear to have a foot in the newspaper industry.
And apparently this guy in K’ville is responsible for the fiasco. He apparently works for a lot of local churches, but newspapers not so much.
My understanding is most of the content from the previous site is gone. That must come as a real disappointment to those who devoted a lot of time commenting on articles which no longer exist.
One has to wonder how the N&R came to make such a decision and frankly, given the outcome, I believe we have a right to know.
Here’s some of Doyle‘s ham-fisted handiwork. Amanda‘s name is Lehmert, not Lambert.

I found the easiest way to search the N&R is through the Gso Public Library website. You need a library card.
http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/index.aspx?page=780
Click on “Databases and Online Services”
Click on News & Record
It will ask for your library card number.
You can search (free of charge) articles for the last 15 years (maybe longer). The website has a lot of external content. Check it out! (no pun intended)
Incredible.
Not just a disappointment to the commenters, can you imagine what the columnists and reporters must be feeling right now? The N&R has just, literally, wiped away their career accomplishments from public access. They are ghosts, starting all over. Hell, the whole crew should stage a walkout in demand of management change.
The N&R has never, in the past seven years or so, felt obligated to provide the kinds of explanations you, rightly, say we deserve. The best we can expect is the usual, “we stand by our decisions” or “we’re working on it,” I’m afraid.
Amanda Lambert must be crushed.
I liker her brother Adam’s rendition of Mad World. It’s better than the original.
[[From there their skills evolved to include advanced programming skills using ColdFusion]]
At the day gig we’re getting away from Cold Fusion as fast as ever we can.
This is all just so sad. What have the citizens of Greensboro and the surrounding area done to deserve this?
“Chris Brewer serves as the senior digital media leader responsible for news, advertising, production and development and leads a staff of 25.
“He is responsible for the strategic direction for interactive initiatives. He joined the News & Record in January 2008 after a 14-year career with The News & Observer in Raleigh, where he was a strong sales leader consistently achieving double-digit sales growth.
“Chris earned an M.B.A and B.A. in radio, television and motion pictures from UNC Chapel Hill.”

Why is it I suspect the website is way down the list of his priorities?
Well, yeah, because why would a website be a priority for the guy responsible for the strategic direction of interactive initiatives?
I bet he’s a pro with Facebook. The rest he’s obviously hired out – probably with someone he met in Sunday school.
at Lawndale Baptist Church?
God help us.
